REDSEC Community Update: Armor, Looting, and Beyond

REDSEC Community Update: Armor, Looting, and Beyond

Greetings everyone,

As we approach the dawn of Season 2, we want to share an update on the current trajectory of REDSEC and what lies ahead. While our previous REDSEC blog focused exclusively on armor systems, we have since been meticulously tracking player discourse and performance data across all gameplay elements. Today’s update outlines the insights we’ve gathered and the enhancements currently in development.

Refining the Armor Economy

A recurring theme in community feedback is that armor plates can feel frustratingly scarce, particularly as a match transitions into its final stages. When players find it difficult to replenish their protection after a skirmish, it can stifle aggressive play and make hard-won victories feel like a net loss for the squad’s resources.

To address this friction, we implemented a hotfix in December ensuring that downed players drop a minimum of two armor plates upon death. This adjustment helps teams stabilize after an encounter, ensuring that combat serves to replenish a squad’s supplies rather than leaving them vulnerable and scavenging for leftovers.

Furthermore, with the launch of Season 2, we are introducing armor plate spawns within Class Crates, effectively boosting plate availability across the entire map. By combining guaranteed drops from eliminations with increased environmental spawns, we aim to make the armor economy more reliable and less of a constant hurdle for survival.

As with all balancing efforts, we will keep a close eye on how these changes influence live matches, pairing our data with your direct feedback to determine if further tuning is required.

New Horizons in REDSEC Season 2

Season 2 will introduce dedicated Limited-Time Modes for both Battle Royale and Gauntlet. These events will debut experimental mechanics, creating fresh tactical opportunities and unique gameplay loops for players to master.

We are also excited to unveil the Mobile Redeploy Strike Package. This tool provides squads with a tactical lifeline, especially during the late game when static Redeploy Towers might be out of reach or already within the collapse. Much like the traditional towers, this portable version allows teams to bring fallen allies back into the fray when it matters most.

The Mobile Redeploy requires an outdoor placement with a clear line of sight to the sky. Once activated, it emits a distinct purple smoke signal, alerting nearby enemies to its presence. There is a 45-second preparation window before teammates can successfully redeploy, offering rival squads a chance to intercept and destroy the device before the reinforcement arrives.

Players can most reliably find Mobile Redeploys by searching Ambulances, though they also have a rare chance to appear in Safes, Tactical Armory Crates, and MRAPVs. Additionally, certain missions will now offer this Strike Package as a guaranteed reward.

To better regulate the flow of matches, we are also implementing a cooldown on Vehicle Keycard rewards from missions. While tanks remain a cornerstone of the REDSEC experience, this change prevents teams from dominating with back-to-back heavy armor, though squads can still secure multiple vehicles through other high-risk activities.

We look forward to seeing how these additions enhance the pacing, survivability, and strategic depth of the game once Season 2 arrives.

Future Enhancements Beyond the Season Launch

Our work doesn’t stop at the Season 2 launch. We are actively refining several core pillars that define the Battle Royale experience, specifically targeting looting mechanics, communication tools, and vehicular balance.

We are currently fixing instances where ground loot fails to render or appears late during the initial insertion phase. Our goal is to ensure that every landing feels consistent, allowing players to arm themselves immediately. Similarly, we are resolving issues with air drop crates arriving empty or late, ensuring these contested objectives remain high-value targets.

Several core systems are also receiving significant attention:

  • Loot Distribution: We are investigating new methods to bolster item availability during the mid-to-late game to maintain momentum as the player count thins.

  • Ping System: We are fine-tuning ping responsiveness, specifically focusing on long-distance accuracy and registration consistency.

  • Audio Fidelity: Vehicular engine sounds and enemy footsteps are being overhauled to provide better directional clarity and environmental awareness.

  • Gadget Balancing: We are evaluating the current drone and strike package meta to ensure they contribute to a healthy and competitive environment.

While these updates will roll out incrementally, they represent our primary development focuses as we continue to evolve the game.

The Design Philosophy of REDSEC Looting

Hello, I’m Melad Darbandi, a Gameplay Designer at Ripple Effect Studios. My focus is on the looting ecosystem within Battlefield: REDSEC. I wanted to offer some insight into our philosophy regarding how you find and interact with gear. With REDSEC, our objective was to build a looting system that feels physical, grounded, and logical within the world.

We achieve this through several design choices:

  • Items are housed within tangible physical containers rather than floating abstractly in the environment.

  • Interacting with these containers provides a sense of weight and tactile feedback.

  • The loot pool is dynamic, reacting to the sandbox and the unfolding events of the match.

Additionally, we’ve categorized containers into thematic roles based on their location, helping you make informed tactical decisions.

  • Preparing for a room clear?

Police Vans are tailored for close-quarters lethality, offering shotguns, specialized kits, flashbangs, and smoke grenades to dominate interior spaces.

  • Playing the medic?

Ambulances are a guaranteed source for Defibrillators and will serve as a primary source for the new Mobile Redeploy Strike Package in Season 2.

  • Combatting enemy armor?

Box Trucks and specialized Anti-Vehicle Drops are your best bet. Interestingly, if a tank is detected in your vicinity, the contents of unopened Box Trucks can dynamically shift to provide anti-armor gear to help you level the playing field.

These systems reflect the standard of gameplay we want for REDSEC. As we roll out new content, we will continue to refresh our loot pools intentionally. This includes spotlighting underutilized weapons and archetypes based on what we learned during the California Resistance Event.

P.S. Has anyone tracked down all the hidden Superior weapons on Fort Lyndon yet? They serve as a tribute to some iconic figures from the Battlefield series. Good luck out there!

The Road Ahead

Throughout this ongoing development, our mission remains to make REDSEC a consistent, thrilling, and rewarding experience from the initial drop to the final extraction. You can expect regular dispatches like this one, alongside frequent balance passes as we introduce new content and events.

As always, please report any technical issues on the EA Forums and join the conversation on our official Discord.
