Commercially, Pokémon Legends: Z‑A established itself as a major success, moving roughly 5.8 million copies in its first week. That total falls short of Pokémon Legends: Arceus (6.5 million first‑week sales in 2022) and represents the smallest European launch for a mainline Pokémon RPG since 2018’s Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee. Even so, viewed outside franchise expectations, it’s undeniably a strong financial performance.

Critically, the picture is similar: the game has generally favorable reviews. GamesRadar awarded it four out of five stars, and it carries a 78 critic rating on Metacritic, compared with Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘s 83 Metascore.

Pokémon Sword and Shield briefly lost me as a fan, but Pokémon Legends: Z‑A has reignited my enthusiasm for the series.
