While Molyneux has touched on Lionhead’s potential Fable 4 before—envisioning a world where Microsoft hadn’t pivoted the studio toward the ill-fated Fable Legends—this mention of a concrete pitch document inside the studio adds a new layer to the story of the canceled project.
Reflecting on a 2014 interview, Molyneux previously described a “steampunk Victoriana” setting for the fourth game. The grand plan for Albion was to transition from its medieval roots, through the industrial revolution, and eventually arrive in a version of the modern era.
“The team took the idea quite seriously,” Molyneux recalled, mentioning that concept art had been created for this Victorian-inspired era. “It would have focused on the shifting nature of heroism and fame in a world that was rapidly changing. It was a fascinating direction to consider.”
