Peak Lead Developer Responds to “Friendslop” Critics: “These Games Aren’t Trying to be Game of the Year”

Kaman further noted that while any trending genre will inevitably see an influx of low-quality clones, much of the criticism feels performative. “I think people just enjoy being a hater sometimes—especially when you have a term as evocative and catchy as ‘friendslop’ to throw around.”

He argues that the true magnetism of these games is the human element. “There’s a profound desire for players to simply connect and exist together in online spaces, and these games place that interaction at the very heart of the design,” Kaman said. “They are built to reward communication and teamwork, rather than focusing solely on testing a player’s individual mechanical skill within a group.”
