Generally, Molyneux seems impressed by Playground Games’ creative direction. He specifically lauded the choice to reimagine the narrative of the first Fable instead of being shackled by the continuity of later sequels. He also highlighted the clever touch of having the protagonist’s family turned to stone as a “brilliant” narrative choice.

However, the veteran designer didn’t shy away from constructive criticism regarding the reboot’s visual identity.

“It felt slightly antiseptic to me,” he noted. “But they still have plenty of time to layer in that grit and character. Fable was never meant to be clean or perfectly defined with sharp angles. It should feel chaotic, mirroring a version of Old England where nothing is perfectly straight, proportions are exaggerated, and the world feels lived-in and slightly crinkled. That aesthetic is what gives the series its soul.”

Regardless of his minor aesthetic notes, Molyneux confirmed he “absolutely” intends to play the game when it launches. He emphasized that he won’t be looking for technical flaws but will approach it as a fan who “truly loves and adores” the universe.

Fable is scheduled to arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025.
