Nuts is a neat sport about squirrel surveillance

My dad used to take me and my sister badger watching. We’d head out into some close by woods and spend the day constructing a hideout from sticks, then camouflage it with ferns and settle in till nightfall. What we didn’t do is about up a digital camera system and camp out evening after evening till we’d uncovered their secrets and techniques, as is the goal of free squirrel surveillance game Nuts.

That squirrel has a stash, you see, and it’s as much as you to trace it down.

Here are the specifics:

“You have 3 cameras, wired up to three TVs at your hideout. Each night, the squirrel leaves its home, goes to its stash, and returns home. You can place the cameras during daytime, and at night you can watch it run around. Can you find the tree that has the stash?”

It’s a pleasantly easy activity, difficult by the best way that dastardly squirrel has a behavior of scampering everywhere in the forest earlier than heading to the tree along with his stash in. You’ve received as many days as you want to seek out it – I received fortunate and managed it in 5. I used to be virtually unhappy when I discovered it so shortly, seen as I’d have preferred to have spent extra time bathing within the sport’s beautiful yellow glow. It’s like a much less ominous model of that day last year when somebody summoned some kind of Lovecraftian Old One.

Be warned that Nuts doesn’t have any audio, so that you may wish to do what I did and slap on some ambient woodland background noise.

There’s no wildlife on show apart from the fleeting glimpses you’ll catch of the squirrel, however this has whet my urge for food for extra nature watching video games. I do just like the lively, investigative function you play on this although, so I’m unsure if I’d get uninterested in simply sitting again and observing. I’m imagining one thing like Monster Hunter, however with out the monsters or the searching – as an alternative you’d spend half your time hiding your self and getting ready for when a critter appeared, then the opposite half following them about.

So, um, not an terrible lot like Monster Hunter then. Maybe somebody simply must make me a badger hideout simulator.

Nuts was made for the 2018 Global Game Jam. You can obtain it without cost from its Itch.io web page.
