High component costs could make the device more than twice as expensive as the Xbox Series X. A weakened rival may also force Sony to reassess its pricing strategy.
According to noted AMD insider Kepler L2, the next-generation Xbox is shaping up to be a premium, tech-forward console — and it may come with a premium price tag. On the NeoGAF forum the leaker claimed the new Xbox will likely exceed $1,000, citing component costs that are reportedly more than double the roughly $650 manufacturing cost of the Xbox Series X.
The console is said to be built around AMD’s Magnus APU. Kepler L2 — who has previously supplied reliable information on AMD products — stressed that the system’s price would be no less than $999. Moreover, if rumors about support for Steam and other third-party stores are confirmed, Microsoft would lose the ability to subsidize hardware via the typical 30% store commission, which could drive the retail price even higher.
If these reports prove accurate, the new Xbox would rank among the most expensive consoles in history, a development that could alter the competitive landscape for next-generation gaming platforms.
