With so much good music being released all the time, it can be hard to determine what to listen to first. Cate Le Bon: Pompeii [Mexican Summer]

Pompeii is the Welsh artist Cate Le Bon’s sixth studio album. Led by the single “Running Away,” the follow-up to 2019’s Reward is co-produced by longtime collaborator Samur Khouja and Le Bon, who plays every instrument except for the drums (performed by Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa) and the saxophone. Mitski: Laurel Hell [Dead Oceans]

Mitski’s sixth album arrives after a period of absence. After the release of her 2018 album Be the Cowboy, Mitski took a break from performing. She left social media and considered quitting the music business. On songs like “Working for the Knife,” Laurel Hell confronts Mitski’s complicated relationship to her profession, while others, such as “The Only Heartbreaker,” address romantic desires and dismays. Revisit Pitchfork’s feature “Don’t Cry for Mitski.”
