Ready Action Hideous Laughter – YouTube

The developers aim to make the majority of actions compatible with this system eventually. This includes preparing curative spells for allies as they move into range or setting up defensive maneuvers against encroaching threats. Although tabletop D&D allows for infinite imagination, the digital version requires precise programming. The team admitted that while they couldn’t replicate the absolute freedom of a Dungeon Master, they’ve ensured the system remains intuitive and user-friendly.
“We would have loved nothing more than to make it exactly like on tabletop and give you all the possibilities you could imagine,” the blog states. “But this would be a liiiittle overwhelming – if we did, we’d have to code a puzzle game inside your tactical CRPG.”
In a physical D&D session, the DM allows for complex, shared storytelling at a natural pace. In a video game environment, every variable must be hard-coded. Despite these inherent limitations, the mechanics in Solasta 2 are designed to be seamless.
“It activates the moment a valid target enters the specified range of your Ready Action,” the post explains. “Whether it’s a ranged attack triggering on an enemy’s movement or a healing spell reserved for a wounded teammate passing by, the execution is automatic once the criteria are met.”
Tactical RPG enthusiasts can experience these depth-enhancing mechanics for themselves when Solasta 2 enters Early Access on March 12.
