I’m the voice of Anran in Overwatch!!! 🧡I held off on posting about this because I wanted to make sure I could do this discussion justice. Here’s a shot at that! Let’s keep rooting for the version of her that could be. I hope you have so much fun playing her!! 🔥🪭 pic.twitter.com/jbFbKHPVpbFebruary 8, 2026
“I had to go through a mourning process for Anran,” Anderson continued. “Between the design I had envisioned and the one that was ultimately finalized, there was a precedent established in her comic and the *Elemental Kin* cinematic. It felt like an unspoken commitment to challenge the narrow beauty standards currently saturating modern media—the ‘Ozempic chic,’ the tiny, contoured noses. Because that expectation was set, people feel understandably disappointed.”
Anderson emphasized that Overwatch has historically been a “trailblazer” in redefining heroism and beauty, noting that Anran’s final look feels like it missed that “bold, optimistic swing” the franchise is known for. She also expressed concern that the new design doesn’t quite match the character’s fierce personality, stating that she now “looks more docile and like the younger sibling,” which contradicts her role as a formidable fire hero.
“I’ve been following all the fan redesigns and quietly saving them,” Anderson added. “I want you to know that your concerns are being heard. This is a topic worth advocating for. The more we speak up about representation and authenticity, the more likely we are to see ourselves accurately reflected in the media we consume.” The voice actor also confirmed she has shared these sentiments directly with the development team, who encouraged her to be completely transparent with her feedback.
