Mojang finally reveals Minecraft: Java Edition’s entire codebase after 16 years to help modders build and improve mods faster

Why remove obfuscation? Mojang says the answer is straightforward: modding is central to Java Edition, and obfuscation makes it harder. Removing it should speed up development, simplify maintenance, and reduce the need to decipher unclear names and tangled code.

The developer also clarifies this change does not alter the current EULA — so modders and creators can continue their work under the same terms.
