Minecraft: The Cutest Drop Yet

Beyond these interactive “squishmallows,” Mojang is also rolling out updates for calves, piglets, chicks, ocelots, and lambs. Each creature has been redesigned to emphasize its cuteness and illustrate a clear visual progression between infancy and adulthood. This overhaul includes unique sound effects for the youngsters. Interestingly, the design of the lamb sparked a significant internal debate at Mojang.
“Originally, I designed a version that was very fluffy with a thick coat of wool, but it didn’t align with the gameplay mechanics,” noted Minecraft game artist Sarah Boeving. “Since they can’t be sheared like adults, having a wooly coat was misleading. It also didn’t quite capture the look of real-world lambs. While it was a difficult decision, I’m thrilled with the final design.”
The community seems to agree, particularly regarding the chicks, which remain charmingly simple yellow cubes. Players can now name these tiny creatures individually, though it’s the rabbits that are stealing the spotlight. “I’m really excited for players to see the new rabbits hopping around,” Boeving added.
She also highlighted the ‘Toast’ rabbit variant, which holds a special place in the game’s history. “It was originally added to memorialize a player’s lost pet. There is something profoundly moving about being able to preserve the memory of loved ones within the digital world,” Boeving remarked.
These adorable new additions are currently available to explore via Minecraft’s snapshot feature and the Bedrock beta/preview versions. Happy exploring!
