Microsoft Raises Price of Xbox Development Kits Due to Tariffs and Manufacturing

Microsoft has announced a price increase for its Xbox development kits. Where these devkits previously sold for $1,500, the cost has now risen to $2,000.

The company attributed the hike to global economic pressures — including import tariffs on goods from China, currency volatility, and higher manufacturing expenses.

The development kits, referred to as XDKs, are used by studios to develop and test games for the Xbox Series X and Series S. They come equipped with GDDR6 memory, additional compute units, enhanced debugging tools, programmable controls, and multiple USB ports.

Despite the price increase, Microsoft says it will continue to offer strong support and maintain access to professional-quality tools for developers.

The XDK price adjustment forms part of a broader company strategy: Microsoft recently raised the price of the Xbox Series X console and the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
