Fresh rumors have surfaced about an upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved remake, and reports suggest Halo Studios is undertaking a substantial overhaul to make the classic shooter feel more dynamic.
According to Rebs Gaming, a project referred to as Halo CER will introduce a sprint mechanic — a change likely to transform the pacing of both the campaign and multiplayer.
Insiders familiar with development say the current test build already includes a running feature. Implementation specifics remain under wraps, but a key question is how the new animations will affect aiming with weapons like the M6D Magnum pistol or the sniper rifle.
Earlier reports indicated the Halo CE remake might be single-player only, omitting multiplayer entirely — which would remove the need for PvP balancing. There’s also talk of a PlayStation 5 release, matching Microsoft’s recent move away from strict exclusivity.
Another important aspect is the technology. The remake is said to use a hybrid engine, with Unreal Engine 5 layered over the original Blam Engine used in the Halo titles. A similar approach was employed in the Oblivion remaster, which likewise added sprinting that the original lacked.
