Even though Metaphor: ReFantazio has been on the market for over a year, it continues to command significant attention despite a natural dip in sales momentum. The title has garnered widespread praise for its multifaceted cast of characters and its refreshing take on traditional RPG job mechanics.
In a revealing interview, Katsura Hashino—the creative force behind both Persona and Metaphor—shared that his direct contribution to the Persona series scaled back significantly following the launch of Persona 5 Royal.
He clarified that Studio Zero, the specialized division he spearheaded within Atlus, is the primary custodian of the Metaphor IP, while other internal teams remain dedicated to the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona franchises. Hashino noted that Studio Zero is currently fixated on the Metaphor universe. While this isn’t an official confirmation of a follow-up, his comments are being viewed as a strong indication that the story is far from over. Hashino had previously voiced a desire to establish Metaphor as a flagship series, though he admitted at the time that “definitive plans” had yet to materialize.
Speculation is mounting regarding an inevitable “enhanced” iteration of Metaphor: ReFantazio, alongside a potential sequel designed to iron out minor flaws and propel the franchise to even greater heights.
