Pokemon Legends: Z-A is packed with beloved Pokémon that players can use to craft formidable teams for the Z‑A Royale. One Heracross in particular — affectionately known as Bois — has become a fixture in countless runs across Lumiose City.

Bois is obtainable very early in the game by trading an NPC a Pikachu. As a Bug/Fighting type he’s already solid, but with the ability to Mega Evolve in Legends: Z‑A he quickly turns into a powerhouse. Players have been sharing how indispensable he becomes, and the appreciation for Bois has spread across social feeds and forums.

That sentiment is echoed across community threads. “The goat of my mono Fighting team. If nobody else got me, I know Bois got me,” one commenter wrote on a Bois appreciation post on Reddit. Another player remarked that Bois’s Attack stat is so high it made them think moves like Pin Missile were bugged because of how much damage they dealt.

Bois’s appeal goes beyond raw power — players call him a true companion. As one fan put it, he’s “an absolute good boy: my little rock‑crusher and skull‑flattening pal.” Another admitted they never planned to use a Heracross but quickly became attached: “I couldn’t bring myself to drop Bois; he’s essential to my team now.”

Interestingly, Bois is a traded Pokémon, so his name can’t be changed, which only adds to his mystique. Since Lumiose City was inspired by Paris, some fans have speculated about the name’s French connections — “bois” can translate to “wood” or be part of the verb “to drink” — neither of which seem especially Heracross‑like, but the name has nonetheless become iconic.
