With the launch of the second season of the Fallout series drawing a fresh wave of players to the wasteland, anticipation for Fallout 5 has reached a new peak. While concrete details about the project remain under wraps, Bethesda’s leadership has begun sharing their aspirations for the future of the iconic franchise.
Studio Design Director Emil Pagliarulo expressed his vision for the next installment:
I would be satisfied with a game that achieves the same level of success as previous Fallout titles while continuing to deliver what fans cherish: an immersive narrative and the complex systems they love. We aren’t aiming for a 20-hour or even a 100-hour journey, but rather an experience lasting 200, 300, or even 600 hours—because that is the kind of scope we specialize in.
Pagliarulo also emphasized that the series must evolve to meet modern quality-of-life standards, citing the work on the Oblivion remaster as a point of reference:
People often forget that in the original Oblivion, you couldn’t actually sprint. Of course, we made sure to integrate that feature into the remaster.
According to the director, the studio is determined to adapt to the shifting landscape of the gaming market:
The industry is constantly moving forward, and we fully intend to evolve right along with it.
