In their recent first-quarter report (January-March), Remedy announced that the expenses for the Max Payne 1&2 remake have increased as the development has moved into pre-production phase, with the main production stage set to commence within the next three months. The Finns are sticking to the schedule, indicating that the game is expected by fall 2026.

The question arises, will it indeed be released by then? Or will GTA 6, which fans hope to see at the end of 2025 though a delay to a later date isn’t off the table, come out first? Indeed, these games are not competitors. However, Rockstar Games, the creators of “GTA VI,” are funding the Max Payne comeback project and will likely have a say in its release date. From a gamer’s perspective, it would be most logical to first experience the Max Payne 1&2 remake, immerse oneself once more in its dark story and atmosphere (even the somewhat unlikely multiplayer modes, as seen in the third installment), before moving on to explore a new world within the Grand Theft Auto series, starting with its narrative and eventually transitioning to multiplayer.
