Capcom’s latest cinematic teaser, "Evil Has Always Had A Name," is so packed with visceral horror that it's difficult to pinpoint which mutation is the most unsettling. This three-minute short is a masterclass in atmospheric dread and arguably stands as one of the finest Resident Evil adaptations we've seen yet.

While I hold a certain nostalgic fondness for the Milla Jovovich era of Resident Evil films, those entries often traded the series' iconic gothic undertones for high-octane action. In contrast, "Evil Has Always Had A Name" embraces pure, unadulterated terror. Featuring a hauntingly vulnerable performance by *Longlegs* breakout star Maika Monroe, the film immediately plunges the viewer into a state of frantic unease.

The story follows Monroe and her daughter as they are jolted awake in the dead of night by the blood-curdling screams of their neighbors. As the Raccoon City Police Department desperately—and fruitlessly—discharges their weapons into the dark, the scale of the outbreak becomes terrifyingly clear. You can experience the full teaser below:

If you look closely through the haze of gunfire and falling ash, you might catch a glimpse of a legendary nightmare. Around the 1:35 mark, a massive silhouette looms in the smoke—a frame so imposing it could only belong to the Nemesis. He appears like a dark god of destruction, nearly touching the skyline.

Admittedly, there is some debate among fans. On Reddit, many are convinced they can hear the creature’s iconic "STARS!" growl during his brief appearance, though the audio remains hauntingly ambiguous to my ears. Regardless, Capcom’s commitment to rebuilding the oppressive, decaying world of Resident Evil shines through every frame of this production.

Reflecting on my early impressions of *Resident Evil Requiem*, this project seems destined to be one of the franchise's most bone-chilling entries, finally giving the S.T.A.R.S. legacy the grim, high-stakes treatment it truly deserves.

To borrow the words of one enthusiastic commenter: "FIVE STAAAAAAAAAAAARS."
