“Let’s Talk in a Year”: The New Lara Croft Responds to Criticism from the Original Tomb Raider Creator

The actress intends to deliver a fresh and innovative interpretation of the iconic protagonist.

Two new Tomb Raider projects were recently unveiled: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst. These titles represent a reimagining of the 1999 classic alongside an entirely new narrative chapter for the franchise.

However, the reveal of Legacy of Atlantis did not receive universal praise. Paul Douglas, a co-creator of the original game, remarked that he “would much rather explore uncharted worlds than settle for another remake or remaster of titles from the 90s.”

Alix Wilton Regan, the new voice behind Lara Croft, addressed these sentiments during a conversation with The Gamer. With a confident smile, she stated:

Let’s talk again in a year — then we can circle back to your feedback.

The actress mentioned that while she explored earlier games to understand Lara’s legacy, she found it “counterproductive” to dwell too much on past iterations. According to Alix, her portrayal represents a “truly exciting and original evolution of Lara Croft.”
