Renowned scenario writer Ryukishi07 has ventured into the world of livestreaming, following the lead of actress Konatsu Kato.
Recently, Ryukishi07—the creative mind behind the script for Silent Hill f—hosted a live broadcast featuring a playthrough of his horror title. During the stream, he offered viewers a deep dive into the development process, sharing behind-the-scenes trivia and discussing several conceptual ideas that were ultimately excluded from the final version.
One particular revelation that piqued the audience’s interest was Ryukishi07’s admission regarding the protagonist, Hinako. He confirmed that her name serves as a direct homage to the “When They Cry” (Umineko) series.
It was only a matter of time before someone noticed: the character names are references to “When They Cry.”
As explained by Ryukishi07, the names Hinako, Rinko, and Sakuko were derived from Jessica’s friends—Hina, Rin, and Saku—who appear in the second episode of the original story.
To be perfectly honest, these were just placeholder names, and I had intended to swap them for something cooler later on.
For reasons unknown—perhaps by simple chance—those names remained in the final build. Ryukishi07 hinted that these aren’t the only references to the “When They Cry” franchise tucked away in Silent Hill f, though many other ambitious ideas never made it past the development phase.
