Dogpile goes beyond pure merging: you’re also chasing bones and cash generated by combos. The Pet Shop lets you spend money to add higher-level dogs with unique abilities to your deck, while collar stamps provide persistent buffs. If you hit your bone target you can use the dog wash to power up pets or prune lower-ranked cards from your deck — a wholesome “trim” that streamlines future hands. Miss the bone goal within the allotted turns and you end up in the doghouse, suffering penalties that can include unwelcome fleas. The loop feels closer to a lightweight roguelike than a casual puzzler, and watching consequences play out is satisfying.
From Best in Show ribbons that boost merge rewards to amorous “lover” dogs that magnetize toward others and keep the pile in motion, Dogpile layers a host of systems that can help or hinder you — sometimes both. Like any arcade-style puzzle game, I kept berating myself for small mistakes — if only I’d used that power earlier, or dropped that dog a turn later — which just made me want to reshuffle and try again. Dogpile is coming soon to PC.
