The highlight of this release is undoubtedly the necromancy system. By acquiring a rare Grimoire—occasionally dropped by the massive Praetorian Skeleton—players can now manifest skeletal minions from piles of bones scattered throughout the environment.
Simon Collins-Laflamme, Hytale’s lead and original founder, clarified on social media that this necromantic feature is separate from the comprehensive magic system currently in development. He acknowledged that the summoned undead might appear a bit “unrefined” for now, as it serves as an experimental addition designed for fun. “That is essentially how Hytale was conceived,” he remarked, “just a group of developers enjoying the creative process.”
Collins-Laflamme further noted that production is accelerating, with several teams working on parallel update tracks. Update 3 is scheduled for pre-release next week, with a longer testing window intended to give modders and server operators more time to prepare. This next patch is expected to be smaller in scope as the team works toward establishing a more consistent and predictable release rhythm. It’s clear that Hypixel Studios has no intention of slowing down.
While a Minecraft creative lead recently expressed a preference for the original block-builder after playing Hytale, Collins-Laflamme took the critique in stride, noting that such personal preferences are perfectly valid.
