Wildlight also addressed several nagging glitches, including a bug that capped laptop performance at 60 FPS regardless of internal settings, and another that prevented friend lists from populating correctly. Most impressively, the studio reports that “critical stability fixes have slashed crash rates by 90%,” promising a much smoother experience for the existing player base.
While personal experiences vary, I decided to test these claims by putting Highguard through its paces on an aging RX 580 desktop. To my surprise, the game maintained fluid framerates even with several settings pushed beyond their defaults. Whether Highguard can eventually overcome its “mostly negative” Steam rating remains an open question, but after today’s update, it is clear the developers are making significant strides in technical optimization.
