“Helldivers: seize control of the Magma Planets. Secure the critical mining infrastructure and dismantle the Automaton occupation to scavenge their internal thermal components,” the broadcast continues. “By repurposing their heat-resistance, we ensure that Liberty’s light remains unextinguished even in the darkest corners of the galaxy.”
Eagle-eyed fans noticed a fleeting frame approximately 23 seconds into the footage, showcasing what is unmistakably an ancient Squ’ith—or Illuminate—outpost. For veterans of the first war, this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment is bone-chilling. The Illuminate, a species whose technological advancement dwarfs humanity’s by millennia, represent the ultimate challenge for Super Earth. As one soldier noted on Reddit, “I have absolutely no idea what madness the next major update is bringing, but it looks massive.”

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has already warned the community that “a staggering number of Helldivers will perish” in the upcoming conflict. While the soldiers of Super Earth are famously stubborn and willing to throw endless reinforcements at any problem, the arrival of the Illuminate suggests a brutal shift in the galactic war. Gear up—it’s about to get ugly.
Interestingly, the Helldivers 2 CCO recently mentioned a preference for introducing “sequel-tier features,” such as 8-player cooperative missions and expansive open-world maps, rather than moving on to a potential Helldivers 3.
