Genshin Impact Developer Sues HomDGcat Wiki Leaker Following Ignored Cease-and-Desist Order

  • The site, which famously uses Keqing as its mascot, is described by its creator as a tool to “streamline data access for the community, ensuring players can easily find the specific information they require.”

Cognosphere’s allegations go beyond simple sharing. The company claims HomDGcat has “engaged in systematic copyright infringement” and “deliberately bypassed security protocols designed to safeguard proprietary data,” while allegedly encouraging third parties to violate their non-disclosure agreements with the studio.

The scale of the alleged breach is massive. Cognosphere estimates that HomDGcat distributed “thousands, if not tens of thousands, of unreleased files,” including “copyrighted illustrations for every major character and creature” in its current roster. The legal complaint includes multiple exhibits showing the wiki and Telegram channels revealing character stats and enemy mechanics weeks before their official reveal.

For several years, HoYoverse has been tightening its grip on the data-mining community and beta testers who breach NDAs. Following a string of lawsuits and massive legal fees, many leakers—from Genshin Impact to Zenless Zone Zero—have adopted more secretive methods, often routing their information through multiple aliases and encrypted apps to evade detection.

The HomDGcat wiki now prominently features a new disclaimer: “HomDGCat Wiki will exclusively focus on live game data moving forward,” a shift likely prompted by the ongoing legal threats.

Cognosphere reveals it “sought an informal resolution” in December by issuing a cease-and-desist letter via both email and registered mail. However, the leaker reportedly replied on December 29, stating he “contested the claims and would only adhere to a select few” of the studio’s requirements.

Unsurprisingly, this partial compliance was deemed insufficient. The company is now petitioning the court to “halt all further misappropriation and infringement,” which would involve dismantling HomDGcat’s entire social and digital presence. Furthermore, Cognosphere is seeking “the maximum damages allowed by law,” the exact value of which will be determined during the trial.

In other news, rumors suggest that after years of development, HoYoverse’s highly anticipated mystery title may finally be coming to light, with a recent trailer evoking comparisons to the atmosphere of Remedy’s Control.
