The Sims 4: a more inclusive update, non-binarity arrives in the game, here is the trailerThis is a feature that has been requested by the Sims community and the Maxis studio had promised to do it and it is now done: non-gendered and personalized pronouns are available now in The Sims 4 game. Through an update, it is possible to modify the pronouns of Sims that are created in the character editor. Be careful though, only the English version has this function for the moment and in this first version of the functionality, we have the choice between They/Them, She/Her, He/Him and Custom. Maxis specifies that other updates will arrive later, but they need to see the evolutions and especially the areas where the conversion is not done immediately, to improve the experience and avoid the absurd bugs of course. Indeed, it will not be uncommon to have conjugation errors in English, given the complexity of setting up the feature. For example, you might see “They likes…”. In this situation, the correct grammatical structure should be “They like…”. The feature replaces the pronoun itself rather than the pronoun and verb that follows. The team is working on it and we imagine that it will be the same for the other languages, especially French, where things may get complicated, given the complexity of our beautiful language…

Either way, Electronic Arts and Maxis believe that inclusiveness is a core value of The Sims franchise and that this diversity drives innovation and community forward. It should also be remembered that last October, a petition on Change.org had already collected more than 20,000 signatures to add these non-binary pronoun options to the game. We finish to show you the trailer concerning these new features.
