11 bit studios has unveiled new details about Frostpunk 1886. The project promises “much more than a remaster.” Project director Maciej Sulecki described how the Frostland will become both darker and more vibrant.
As in the original, citizens still wander the city, but they now feature far more detailed animations. Motion-capture technology makes their movements expressive and encourages players to look after them.
Lighting has been upgraded, and the city’s glow now cuts through the harsh weather more strikingly. Building textures have been reworked to appear more worn, reinforcing the game’s post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
Frostpunk 1886 is scheduled for release in 2027.
