  • When asked if modern gaming truly requires the massive headcounts common in AAA studios, Amancio was blunt: “I don’t think we do, and I don’t think it’s sustainable.” He went on to describe the internal inefficiencies of bloated teams.

    “A recurring mistake among AAA studios is the belief that throwing more people at a problem is a solution,” Amancio explained. “In reality, adding more staff often hinders those who were already working efficiently. It simply creates a tremendous amount of noise and friction.”

    Amancio envisions a development landscape defined by leaner squads that leverage external partnerships. “I believe the future is in smaller teams,” he noted. “We should look to other industries that utilize a dedicated core complimented by co-development or outsourcing for specific milestones. It’s about having the right talent for the right task at the exact time it’s needed.”

    As Ubisoft recently closed a newly unionized studio, workers’ representatives have vowed to “exhaust all legal avenues” to defend employee rights.
