Falcom, the studio celebrated for the Trails in the Sky and Ys franchises, has revealed that it is now incorporating artificial intelligence into its game development pipeline. The announcement was made during a recent meeting with the company’s shareholders.
A representative from Falcom stated:
“We are proceeding with caution due to unresolved legal concerns. Currently, we utilize AI for narrative outlining and general research purposes. Tasks that previously required two to three hours of manual labor can now be completed in just ten minutes. We also employ AI to identify and correct typos within our scripts.”
Although the details emerged via translated summaries, the report confirms that Falcom has begun embedding AI into its workflow, particularly during the preliminary stages of development.
The adoption of AI is becoming increasingly prevalent among Japanese gaming giants. At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, a survey revealed that over half of the developers in attendance are already utilizing AI in their creative processes. Sega has previously stated its intention to use AI “appropriately” despite ongoing criticism, while Square Enix aims to transition 70% of its quality assurance and testing tasks to AI-driven systems by 2027.
