The long-awaited EFT 1.0 launch ran into problems.
In November the full PC release of Escape from Tarkov arrived. In this extraction shooter, players undertake raids across various locations to scavenge supplies. Locations are populated by both AI opponents and live players, who can be hostile. If a player dies, their gear is lost.
When the time came to log in, many players attempted to access Escape from Tarkov, but not everyone succeeded — an error began appearing during startup. The issue affected more than just users of the EFT launcher (those who purchased the game from the Battlestate Games website).
Even some players who bought EFT on Steam were unable to start the game — the “Play” button could be disabled (this did not affect all Valve service users).
The Escape from Tarkov developers said version 1.0 includes “over 1,000 fixes and improvements across all game systems.”
They highlighted several key areas:
- A tutorial and phased progression system
- Enhancements to audio and visuals
- Quality-of-life improvements and interface changes
- Non-linear story elements and endgame content
