Sega Promises to “Surprise Everyone” in 2026 with Sonic Racing: Crossworlds

Sega is poised to “shock the world” in 2026 with the continued evolution of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. In a recent dialogue with Famitsu, Game Director Ken Kobayakawa revealed that the studio intends to sustain the game’s momentum throughout the upcoming season, promising a roadmap of surprises even more ambitious than those seen at launch.

Since its debut in September 2025, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds has rapidly expanded its horizons with a steady stream of fresh content. The title has carved out a significant niche on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, successfully filling a long-standing void for a premium kart-racing experience on those platforms. Sega has continued to bolster the roster with iconic figures like Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and NiGHTS through free DLC, while major crossovers with legendary franchises—including Minecraft, SpongeBob, and Pac-Man—are featured in the season pass or available as standalone additions.

During the interview, Kobayakawa reflected on the game’s trajectory:

We introduced Sonic Racing: Crossworlds in September 2025. Thanks in part to over thirty years of racing heritage stemming back to the Sega Rally era, the game was embraced warmly by fans worldwide.
While we are committed to supporting the title throughout the 2026 season, we have also prepared a slate of incredible surprises that far surpass what we offered at launch. Our goal is to make 2026 a landmark year that captivates everyone, staying true to our core mission of providing the ultimate “joy of gaming.”
