Sega Promises to ‘Surprise Everyone’ in 2026 with Sonic Racing: Crossworlds

Sega is aiming to “catch everyone off guard” in 2026 with the continued evolution of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. Project director Ken Kobayashi shared these ambitions in an interview with Famitsu, stating that support for the title will ramp up throughout the upcoming season, with surprises planned that will eclipse those seen at launch.

Since its debut in September 2025, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds has rapidly expanded its horizon with a steady flow of content. The game has proven particularly successful on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, capitalizing on a long-standing demand for a high-profile, modern kart racer. Sega has been bolstering the roster with internal icons like Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and NiGHTS as free DLC, while major crossovers—including collaborations with Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Pac-Man—are featured in the season pass or as standalone additions.

During the discussion, Kobayashi noted:

Since launching Sonic Racing: Crossworlds in September 2025, the game has enjoyed an incredibly warm reception, drawing on over 30 years of racing expertise spanning back to the Sega Rally era.
We intend to maintain rigorous support throughout the 2026 season, but we’ve also curated a selection of surprises far more impactful than what we offered at release. Our vision is for 2026 to be a year that truly amazes the community, with a relentless focus on the pure “joy of play.”
