Nightreign is a brand-new standalone co-operative adventure set in the legendary Elden Ring universe. The game offers a fresh experience, re-imagining the original’s key mechanics while preserving the trademark immersion of its dark fantasy world. Events unfold in Limweld, a new region seized by the forces of the Eternal Night, which warp the very fabric of reality.
Every expedition into these lands differs from the last: unpredictable enemies emerge, the positions of camps and temples shift, and unexpected events occur – there’s no room for boredom. Elden Ring: Nightreign emphasizes shared survival: the three-player co-op mode lets friends unite against the encroaching darkness and formidable foes. - 3-Player Co-op: Team up with other heroes to face the dangers lurking in the dark – Nightreign supports cooperative play for three participants (solo play is also available for the bravest). Coordinated teamwork eases survival, while playing alone increases the difficulty for a hardcore challenge.
- Eight Unique Heroes: Choose from eight character classes – from mighty knights and agile fighters to enigmatic mages, deadly summoners, and even exotic birdfolk – each with a distinct style, skill set, and ultimate ability. Combine the strengths of different classes to craft the perfect strategy against your enemies.
- Session-Based Format (3 Days): Each expedition lasts three in-game days and culminates in a climactic battle with the fearsome Lord of Night. This accelerated cycle injects roguelike dynamism: with every new run, the world regenerates, and even in defeat you never leave empty-handed – earned artifacts and relics empower your character for the next attempt.
- Relentless Threat of Night: As in a battle-royale, darkness steadily shrinks the playable area – the deadly ring of fire gradually surrounds Limweld, driving players toward the final showdown with the boss. At night enemies grow stronger, and special events and creatures appear, so hesitation is lethal: to survive the night you must keep moving and fighting.
- Progression & Loot: Develop your character and upgrade gear at an accelerated pace. Weapons can be raised to rare, epic, and even legendary quality by securing the required resources during expeditions.
- Simplified Growth System: On leveling up, attributes are allocated automatically according to the chosen class, so you spend less time in menus and more time in combat. Every completed – or even failed – run grants relics: permanent upgrades that strengthen your hero before the next excursion.
Gameplay in Elden Ring: Nightreign blends the Souls series’ trademark hardcore combat with survival and roguelike elements. At the start of each expedition your team (or solo hero) begins at level 1 with virtually no equipment. During daylight players explore the ever-changing expanses of Limweld, searching for weapons, artifacts, and points of interest.
Time is limited: you have roughly 15 minutes of daylight to level up, gather upgrades, and prepare for nightfall. Once darkness descends, danger escalates and the safe zone contracts as a mystical fire cataclysm herds adventurers toward the battleground. Each night ends with a boss fight: on the first two nights it may be random powerful foes, while on the third and final night the unique Lord of Night enters the fray, whose defeat is especially challenging.
Nightreign emphasizes speed, coordination, and repeated attempts. Effective teamwork is crucial: only by combining the abilities of different heroes can you survive all three nights. Co-op mechanics allow you to revive fallen allies in battle – vital when facing the strongest adversaries.
In solo play the game becomes a true test of endurance and skill – you’ll have no partners to distract enemies or pick you up, so every step must be planned with extra care. Heroes run faster, leap higher, and can cling to ledges, while special traversal points are scattered across the map – giant war eagles, for example, can ferry you to distant parts of Limweld in seconds. Thanks to such innovations, Nightreign feels far more dynamic and densely packed than the original Elden Ring, offering a fresh perspective on a familiar universe.

I never liked soulslike games and had never bought one before Elden Ring, but I decided to try it after hearing great things. It turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Elden Ring stands out with its unique open-world design, captivating environment, and unmatched vibe. Exploring the map, uncovering secrets, and taking in the stunning visuals made every moment memorable.
Elden Ring doesn’t hold your hand, offering only a basic combat tutorial and some menu navigation hints. This can make the game feel daunting at first, especially for those new to soulslike games. However, figuring things out on your own is incredibly rewarding. The game is all about overcoming challenges, improving your skills, and finding better gear. The sense of accomplishment from defeating a tough boss after many tries is unparalleled.
Despite some design flaws, like clunky PC controls and an awkward UI, the game shines in its core mechanics and immersive world. The open-world exploration, diverse builds, and six different endings provide endless replayability. Elden Ring is an incredible game with impressive world-building, environmental storytelling, and satisfying gameplay. It’s a solid 3/4.
Three stages of playing Elden Ring:
1. (Learning): “These boss attacks are bullsh*t; they are too quick; there is no way to avoid them; what were they thinking when they designed this?!”
2. (20+ deaths): *Complete silence while dodging attacks after getting familiar with bosses’ patterns.*
3. (Post Boss Clarity): “That had to have been one of the greatest fights I’ve beaten; what an incredible design!”
Elden Ring was my first FromSoftware title, and my initial response to this game design was to reject it. But, in all honesty, this game taught me that determination and willingness to put effort into overcoming an obstacle are always possible if you put your mind into it. But if not and if you are struggling to beat certain pieces of content, the game allows you to overcome those obstacles with variety of other tools, which is a great thing.
Overall, a solid 7 out of 10 from me; imperfect but an incredibly fun game.
First Impressions were that the DLC was WAY too hard. I ended up walking away from some bosses to collect the items needed to become stronger and returning to the boss later, it paid off. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. Anyone who leaves a negative review for difficulty is either just being ignorant or lazy. The Artwork, Cinematic work, Views, Weapons, Armour, Locations are all INCREDIBLE. In my honest opinion it isn’t better than the base game but it is a wonderful addition.
