Eldegarde is the New Name for Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, Releasing January 2026

The online role-playing landscape remains a brutal arena—a reality well-known to developers in the genre. Seeking to navigate these turbulent waters, the creators of one upcoming title have decided to pivot their entire strategy.

Originally debuted as Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, the project initially showed significant promise, reaching a peak concurrency of 3,698 players during its February Early Access launch. It garnered nearly 3,900 user reviews with a respectable 70% approval rating. However, momentum has since shifted; active player counts have plummeted to just 40, creating a critical challenge for the title’s multiplayer-driven ecosystem.

In response to this decline, Notorious Studios is implementing a radical overhaul. On January 21, 2026, the game will transition out of Early Access and relaunch under the new title Eldegarde. The project aims to reclaim its position in the emerging PvPvE extraction-RPG market. To broaden its appeal and attract a fresh audience, one of the primary updates will include the introduction of a dedicated PvE mode, allowing players to explore the world without the pressure of player-versus-player combat.
