Funcom is doubling down on the Dune: Awakening endgame. With the upcoming Chapter 3 update, the developer aims to revitalize what many players previously described as a disappointing experience, officially promising a “bigger, better endgame” for its ambitious survival RPG.
“When it comes to the endgame, we know player expectations vary significantly,” Funcom explained in a Steam community update. “However, we have successfully combined your direct feedback with objective in-game telemetry.” Since the title’s launch in 2025, the community has frequently critiqued the endgame for being overly punishing toward solo survivors. While the developer admitted to GamesRadar+ that “pleasing everyone is impossible,” Chapter 3 represents a major effort to ensure players don’t simply abandon Arrakis to the sandworms in frustration.
Chapter 3 will introduce more sophisticated character progression and fresh activities for veteran players. Furthermore, returning survivors will find that their previous tax burdens have been wiped clean. Funcom is scrapping the controversial tax system and introducing “resource return packages” to help players who have been inactive for over 28 days reintegrate into the game world more easily.
“We believe this marks a significant step toward a more compelling endgame experience, but we aren’t finished yet,” Funcom noted. “Plenty of exciting developments are on Arrakis’ horizon, and we look forward to revealing more soon.”
