
Ichikawa didn’t single out which decisions will alter the story, but it seems likely that some dialogue options will carry weight — a welcome change for fans who’ve long hoped for greater narrative agency. This represents a notable shift for the franchise, which has typically delivered linear plots with mostly cosmetic dialogue choices.
Dragon Quest has a history of multiple endings — including “true” endings and various outcomes — but Ichikawa suggested the final result will depend on a range of choices, which, outside of spinoffs or mobile entries, could be a first for the mainline series.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined launches February 5 on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Reimagined pares back the original JRPG’s sprawling side material by removing subplots with little relevance to the main quest, while also introducing entirely new scenarios.
