Cellar Door Games — the studio behind Rogue Legacy and Rogue Legacy 2 — unveiled a markedly different project, Neath, at the PC Gaming Show on December 4, 2025. The title is a grim, grid-based roguelike tactical RPG scheduled to launch on PC via Steam in 2026.
Neath unfolds in a dying landscape dominated by an inverted, irradiated tower. You lead a fragile band of warriors as they ascend that tower, confronting the Taboos — mutable edicts issued by a capricious god that continuously rewrite the rules of reality.
Drawing inspiration from turn-based strategy like Into the Breach and narrative tabletop experiences such as Mansions of Madness, Neath uses a grid and what the developer describes as a “fluid” turn system where initiative constantly shifts. The design lets you influence both allies and foes, turning conventional turn order into a tactical resource.
An engagement-locking mechanic holds allied units in place when targeted by enemies, forcing you to intervene and break those holds. Developer notes also mention interactions such as dispelling trapped chests, bargaining with gods, and manipulating fate using a mechanic called Fate’s Die — events and choices that can dramatically alter your party during each run, with meaningful consequences.
As you climb the tower, characters gain abilities and uncover powerful relics. Building effective team synergies is central to overcoming tougher encounters. Between runs, you’ll rebuild the settlement of Shale: expanding the town grants resources and upgrades that help prepare for future expeditions.
Neath is expected to arrive on PC via Steam in 2026. In the meantime, you can revisit Cellar Door’s earlier work with our reviews of Rogue Legacy and Rogue Legacy 2.
