Colin Petersen, the initial drummer for the Bee Gees that used a few of the band’s very early hits, has actually passed away. He was 78 years of ages.

The information of his death was introduced in a Facebook post on Monday (Nov. 18) by his existing band, Best of The Bee Gees, though no reason of fatality was offered. “It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dear friend Colin ‘Smiley’ Petersen,” the declaration reviews, along with a picture of Petersen grinning behind his drum established. “He enriched our lives and bound our group with love, care and respect. Not sure how we can go on without his glowing smile and deep friendship. We love you Col. Rest in Peace.”

Petersen signed up with bros Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb as component of the Bee Gees in 1966, when all participants relocated from Australia to London. After adding drums to the 1966 cd, Spicks and Specks, Petersen used all 4 of the team’s cds under Polydor/Atco, consisting of 1967’s Bee Gees’ first, which included hits like “New York Mining Disaster 1941,” “To Love Somebody” and “Holiday.” He took place to play drums on 1968’s Horizontal, 1968’s Idea — which included “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You” and “I Started a Joke” — and 1969’s Odessa. His last cd with the Bee Gees was 1970’s Cucumber Castle.

After leaving the team amidst arguments with supervisor Robert Stigwood, Petersen took place to develop the band Humpy Bong with singer-songwriter Jonathan Kelly and Tim Staffell. After a short-term job en masse, Humpy Bong separated and Petersen began an administration business in 1969 with his better half, Joanne Newfield. The couple share 2 boys, Jaime and Ben.
