Blizzard are hiring for a yet-unannounced and presumably first-person thriller game

A two-headed giant in World of Warcraft. It's big, but not exactly new.

Something new is brewing deep in Blizzard’s secret analysis labs, at the least in response to a slew of Blizzard Careers job-postings spotted by MMORPG’s eagle-eyed goblin-botherers earlier this week. In amidst the standard job stuff (together with a slew of Diablo-related gubbins) is speak of an unannounced project, at the moment hiring for main roles together with Senior Level Designer. Blizzard are asking for such abilities as “world building from conception to the final stages of polish”, implying that no matter it’s they’ve received cooking, it’s going to be contemporary.

Other associated job postings point out “a robust first-person engine” and that regardless of the game is, it presents “a beautiful and visceral core combat experience”, suggesting an FPS or hack n’ slasher. Multiple postings point out a required “passion for co-op games, RPGs and board games” too. While that doesn’t slender issues down a lot, it raises some attention-grabbing questions. Some people over on Blizzard’s boards have been assembling particulars on this new thriller game, an also-unannounced cell game, plus a brand new Diablo challenge, and you can see their collated data here.

Of course, the truth that Blizzard are engaged on an enormous new challenge doesn’t imply that we’ll be seeing it any time quickly, or presumably ever. Remember that StarCraft: Ghost fizzled out utterly, and Overwatch is constructed out of the stays of a cancelled MMO. Even if this new challenge survives lengthy sufficient to be thought of launch-worthy, Blizzard are sitting on prime of one of many greatest warfare chests within the trade, and haven’t any motive to rush something out the door. It could also be years earlier than we hear something extra about this.

Despite all that, any Blizzard challenge is straight away attention-grabbing. The studio have had an infinite influence on most genres they’ve tried their hand at. Not all, although – Blackthorne‘s world of high-tech orcs and Prince of Persia-inspired platforming never quite caught on, after all. While I doubt we’ll hear something official about this new challenge for some time (it does sound very early in growth), we’ll be preserving an ear to the bottom come Blizzcon this November for any point out of that new Diablo challenge.
