While Battlefield 6 was designed as the spiritual successor to the beloved Battlefield 3 and 4, many veteran players felt the experience was incomplete without the iconic AH-6 Little Bird helicopter. Responding to community feedback, Battlefield Studios has confirmed that this agile fan-favorite will officially return on Tuesday, February 17, coinciding with the launch of Season 2.
“The AH-6 Little Bird is back and will be integrated into a wide range of maps,” a representative revealed during a private Season 2 media briefing. “We’re eager to see the level of tactical carnage that expert pilots will bring to the battlefield.” Although the Little Bird made a fleeting appearance in the game’s Portal mode at launch, it was quickly retracted, making this permanent addition a highly anticipated milestone for the sequel.

New Frontiers: Contaminated and Hagental Base
Leading the Season 2 charge is Contaminated, a fresh map set within a sprawling airbase nestled at the foot of a German mountain range. In terms of scale, the developers describe it as a middle ground between Eastwood and Mirak Valley. According to a Battlefield Labs update, the map’s pacing is reminiscent of classic encounters like St. Quentin Scar or Arras. Visually, it breaks away from the series’ grittier tones, offering a vibrant, lush environment under brilliant blue skies.
Accompanying the new map is VL-7 Strike, a limited-time mode that introduces a hallucinogenic gas mechanic. To survive the psychoactive clouds that periodically engulf the map, squads must utilize gas masks. Failing to do so results in severe visual and auditory distortions, leaving players vulnerable to ambush.
Season 2 Phases: Extreme Measures and Nightfall
These updates comprise the “Extreme Measures” launch phase, which also introduces four new weapons and two unique gadgets. The momentum continues on March 17 with the “Nightfall” update, which adds another map: Hagental Base. Located near the same mountain range as Contaminated, this facility features an intricate subterranean complex built for intense, close-quarters combat and strategic flanking.
A “remixed” variant of Hagental Base will also debut, plunging the environment into near-total darkness. In this high-stakes setting, players must balance the use of night vision goggles against the tactical advantage—and exposure—of weapon-mounted flashlights. This phase also introduces the dirt bike to the vehicle roster, promising a significant boost to player mobility and high-speed stunt potential.
The Hunter and the Prey
The season concludes with the “Hunter/Prey” phase on April 14, headlined by Operation Augur. Inspired by the narrative-driven Operations mode from Battlefield 1, this event spans both new maps, chronicling a NATO offensive against the Hagental underground structure using the experimental VL-7 gas.
Battlefield Studios has hinted that even more secrets remain buried within Season 2. For a deeper dive into the upcoming content, you can view the official Season 2 roadmap on the EA website.
