Battlefield 6 devs abandoned Battlefield 4’s destruction mechanic because “it wouldn’t be fun” if everything turned to dust

The team calls the approach “tactical destruction.” As Grass explains, it’s designed so players can use destruction to create strategic opportunities — for example, demolishing a structure to flush out or block enemies, enabling flanking maneuvers.

It’s a more deliberate kind of devastation. “If you could destroy everything, once there’s nothing left, then the game wouldn’t be fun,” Grass concludes.

So yes, you can break a heart, and I might have nudged someone’s bumper years ago, but don’t expect to sprint through Battlefield 6 knocking over every building you see. This is intentional design — not a return to unrestricted carnage.

Battlefield 6 uses the same destruction systems for both Multiplayer and Battle Royale modes, but you’ll need to think carefully before smashing: “Just destroying everything isn’t a good idea.”
