Following the monumental conclusion of Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is reportedly preparing a comprehensive overhaul of the X-Men franchise.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Emma Mackey—the breakout star of Barbie and Emily—is being eyed for a pivotal role in the upcoming X-Men reboot. The project is currently being developed under the direction of Jake Schreier.
Speaking on The Hot Mic podcast, Sneider advised his audience to “keep an eye on Mackey” regarding the project, though he refrained from disclosing which specific mutant character she might be portraying.
While Sneider did not provide further specifics, his comments align with rumors circulated last month by another prominent source, MyTimeToShineHello, who claimed that Marvel Studios is actively seeking “A-list talent” to spearhead the new mutant era.
Schreier, who recently directed Thunderbolts*, confirmed his involvement in the mutant-centric project as early as August 2025. Despite his confirmation, Marvel Studios has maintained absolute secrecy concerning the film’s plot and official casting decisions.
An official premiere date for the X-Men revival has yet to be announced. However, multiple sources suggest the film will not hit theaters until after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, which is currently slated for late 2027.
