Natalie Imbruglia is ‘Getting Ready for New Music to Drop’

Natalie Imbruglia is almost ready for release.

The “Torn” singer was set to share a new album in 2020, her first through a deal signed in 2019 with BMG. As with so many good things last year, Imbruglia’s record was put on hold.

That’s about to change, with the Australian pop artist teasing the first cut from it.

“Sorry I haven’t posted in a while,” she writes on Instagram. “I’ve been busy behind the scenes getting ready for new music to drop. Shooting a video, working on artwork… it’s a beautiful thing!” Imbruglia’s post accompanies a screengrab of her Zoom hangout with her BMG U.K. team.

Imbruglia has released five studio albums, most recently Male, from 2015.

Like many of her compatriots, Imbruglia got her break in showbiz with a starring role in the iconic soapie Neighbors. She made a break for the music business and landed a global hit in 1997 with her cover of Ednaswap’s “Torn.”

Imbruglia’s debut album Left of The Middle hit No. 1 on the ARIA chart and No. 5 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, and sold seven million copies worldwide.

The awards came hard and fast. She received an MTV Award for Best New Artist in 1998 and collected six ARIA Awards. The following year, Imbruglia earned a hattrick of Grammy Award nominations and took out two Brit Awards (for best international newcomer and best international female).

Career album sales surpass 10 million, according to BMG. In the years since her last album, Imbruglia has become a mom. She welcomed her first child, son Max Valentine, in October 2019.
