Players now have access to advanced tools for creativity.
In early December, the team behind the city-building simulator Cities: Skylines II introduced an asset editor.
This tool enables players to add their own sophisticated assets to the game at a level comparable to official content.
Rather than a separate menu, the editor opens on a custom map where multiple assets can be edited at once:
There isn’t a standalone asset editor. Instead, you work on a stage where you can place and modify one or several objects simultaneously. When creating multiple assets, you can edit them together. By default the stage is a flat green field, but you can also load a map and add roads and trees to compare scale and preview how your asset will appear in the game.
Handling large lots is now simpler: you can input the lot’s depth and width for an entire building (maximum lot size is 1000×1000 tiles).
The tools also let you define “invisible paths” and “pathfinding areas” to guarantee access for pedestrians and vehicles.
Beginning next year, responsibility for Cities: Skylines II will move from Colossal Order to the Iceflake Studios team.
