Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0: Your “Ugly” Ex-Villagers Haven’t Forgotten Your Grudges

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Cast your mind back to the villagers who were unceremoniously evicted for not fitting a certain “aesthetic.” Many players spent weeks swatting unwanted neighbors with bug nets, sending anonymous hate mail, and trapping houses behind fences just to force a move-out. Others treated their residents like commodities, trading them away on Nookazon for a mountain of Bells and Nook Miles Tickets. You might have deleted those memories, but the Nintendo save data has a long memory, and those old faces are coming back to haunt Slumber Island.

“This is absolutely diabolical. Every villager I flipped on Nookazon is coming back for blood,” one player joked, realizing their past island management choices were finally catching up to them.

“Chops is literally rising from the grave to get his revenge,” another fan shared, posting screenshots of the elaborate “clown-themed” moat they originally built to bully the pig villager into leaving. “He’s back on my Slumber Island and I am terrified.”

“Please, I can handle Jakey, but keep Knox far away from me,” another user pleaded on social media.

The situation was perfectly captured by a viral Simpsons meme: “When the villagers you kicked off for being ugly reappear on Slumber Island because the save data remembers your sins even if you don’t.”

Despite the “hauntings,” plenty of fans are overjoyed to see their favorite former islanders again. “I actually teared up seeing my old residents hanging out with my new ones,” one fan noted. Ultimately, your mileage with this feature depends entirely on whether you were a benevolent leader or a ruthless architect during your time in Nintendo’s usually peaceful life sim.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update is available now, and fans are equally obsessed with a new storage fix: “Finally, I can actually carry things again!”
