“Almost a Sequel”: DOOM: The Dark Ages Game Director Reveals New Expansion Details
It appears that id Software is orchestrating something truly monumental for its next release.
The game director for DOOM: The Dark Ages has been frequently engaging with the community via livestreams, peeling back the curtain on the details of the upcoming narrative expansion for the shooter.
According to the developer, this DLC is so “MASSIVE that it’s practically a sequel in its own right.” Players are promised a substantial endgame experience that goes far beyond the standard campaign.
The expansion will also introduce a refined weapon-swapping mechanic, which players will be able to unlock in unexpected ways. The director teased that “there are some absolutely wild features in there, and I think it’s going to be incredibly cool.”
Hugo Martin has been deep in the playtesting phase recently. He noted that while one of the new tools requires a significant learning curve to master, fully unlocking its potential will fundamentally redefine the gameplay feel.
Furthermore, he hinted at a dynamic new combat maneuver: “It would be amazing to dash-evade and immediately transition into a powerful strike.”
A definitive release date for the DOOM: The Dark Ages expansion has yet to be officially announced.
