Some PC ports perform poorly, and Alice is no exception.
Recently PC players have returned their attention to Alice: Madness Returns. A modder known as Wemino published an unofficial patch on GitHub called “MadnessPatch,” aimed at resolving many issues present in the game’s PC port.
Notable changes and improvements:
- Proper scaling of subtitle fonts (removes the 720p limitation).
- Numerous fixes for physics and gameplay issues that appeared at high frame rates (FPS).
- Resolves crashes and endless loading screens.
- Forces loading of high-resolution textures (the game previously loaded blurry textures first and sharpened them as you approached).
Before / After
- Disables mouse and gamepad acceleration.
- Adapts the game for widescreen and ultrawide monitors.
Before and after on a 21:9 monitor
- Cutscenes can be skipped with Enter instead of the jump key (Space).
- Option to run the game in windowed mode instead of fullscreen.
- Disables legacy Unreal Engine 3 driver “hacks” intended for very old graphics cards (pre-2010): these legacy tweaks can impede modern GPUs by forcing outdated rendering paths; disabling them lets the game run more efficiently on contemporary hardware.
