Catching pets will now be remarkably straightforward.
As the launch of the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion draws near, new details are coming to light. Some players who have accessed the alpha noted that the new “pets” cannot be engaged in battle.
World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that pets in Midnight will be present without a combat function.
Capturing pets now works differently: you no longer need to fight them — simply toss a cage to secure them.
In the achievement text for WoW Midnight, the wording uses “wild pet” instead of “battle pet.”
This adjustment to pet mechanics applies specifically to zones introduced in World of Warcraft: Midnight. Existing locations will remain unchanged; the pet battle system is not being removed from the game.
Notably, these alterations come amid Nintendo’s dispute with Palworld — lawyers have flagged certain elements and mechanics that bear a resemblance to those found in the Pokémon franchise.
