Joe Perry, the co-founding guitarist of Aerosmith, has voiced uncertainty about the band’s future, emphasizing that Steven Tyler currently lacks both the motivation and the physical ability to embark on another major tour.

During a conversation with Boston’s WBUR, Perry expressed his belief that there remains a chance for the legendary rockers to reunite on stage.

“If I were betting, I’d say there’s still an Aerosmith show left in us,” he admitted.

Speculation mounted after their 2023 farewell tour announcement took a dramatic turn when Tyler fractured his larynx during a performance in Elmont, New York, on September 9, necessitating the postponement of the Peace Out tour dates.

By August 2024, Aerosmith officially retired from touring. In that same month, bassist Tom Hamilton dismissed suggestions that the band was finished, insisting Aerosmith were “still alive” despite hanging up their touring boots.

In the WBUR interview, Perry revealed he and Tyler recently met to explore future possibilities, including a potential documentary, yet he tempered expectations for a full-scale tour.

“He just doesn’t want to tour—and frankly, he can’t,” Perry explained. “Booking a 40-city itinerary again is a huge undertaking. Reaching the summit is one thing; staying there is another, and it takes its toll, especially on an Aerosmith tour.”

Perry did not entirely exclude the idea of more manageable performances, such as a Las Vegas residency similar to their Deuces Are Wild series in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

“I won’t say never, but I wouldn’t place a big wager on it,” he said. “You have to really want it—and at this stage, we’re all considering how we’d prefer to spend the time we have left.”

Since stepping away from extensive touring, Tyler has appeared on stage only sporadically, headlining his Jam for Janie Grammy Viewing Party in February and performing at the Back to the Beginning benefit concert in England in July.
