Update — October 28, 2025:

Electronic Arts has officially launched REDSEC, a free-to-play battle royale experience built on Battlefield’s core mechanics, alongside Battlefield 6’s first seasonal update.

EA describes REDSEC as a genre-evolving, free-to-play destination rooted in Battlefield’s signature gameplay. The release pairs a fresh interpretation of battle royale with an intense squad-focused competitive mode called Gauntlet, plus expanded access to Portal features.

In practice, REDSEC functions as a standalone free-to-play companion to the paid Battlefield 6 experience—similar in approach to other large-scale free shooters. Gauntlet pits eight teams of four against one another in short, high-stakes, tournament-style matches that last roughly five minutes per round. The mode’s debut map, Fort Lyndon, is billed as Battlefield’s largest map yet and supports up to 100 players simultaneously.

Concurrently, Battlefield 6’s first season—titled “Rogue Operations”—is rolling out. Today’s patch introduces three new weapons, the Blackwell Fields map, a new Strikepoint mode, and a 100-tier battle pass. Additional season 1 drops are scheduled for November 18 (California Resistance) and December 9 (Winter Offensive).
